 Beautiful overhanging trees draped in spanish moss, manicured lawns, beautiful and unique homes and the Juliet Gordon Low Park make Gordonston one of Savannah Georgia's  most prized jewels.  Named for the noted Gordon family of Savannah, their most famous family member being the founder of the Girl Scouts, Juliette Gordon Low.  Quite similar to Ardsley Park in many ways, the smaller subdivision of Gordonston is just a short drive to downtown Savannah and the Islands.

Stubbs Tower Implosion, Savannah, Ga

Stubbs Tower's, a high rise senior citizen residence built in the late 1970 had been evacuated several years ago and the city had it demolished a couple of weeks ago.  There are plans to put a park on the spot.  Stubbs Tower's was located on the east side of Savannah, about 4 blocks from the historic Gordonston neighborhood.  Since I live in the area, we walked over to watch the implosion in person..........it was so surreal and amazing!  Over very quickly as you can see from the video.

 

New Target opens in Savannah. Big boost for the east side and the Islands!

It's about time!  Finally, the Victory Square shopping center is now complete with the grand opening of the new Target and Staples as well as the Victory Square multiplex movie theater, finishing off the revitalization that was begun  about 2 years ago by Home Depot.  

Now residents of Ardsley Park, Gordonston, Park Side area at Daffin Park, Baldwin Park, the Victorian and Historic districts and especially Wilmington & Tybee Islands have a short drive for shopping instead of trekking all the way out to the Savannah Mall on the south side of town.

As a Gordonston resident I can be there in less than 5 minutes.  This should be a big boost for the already begun growth of the east side of town and great for the local economy.
